Privacy-First Content Filtering

Last Updated: April 28, 2026

Core filtering happens in your browser. Account sync is optional. We do not sell personal data, browsing history, page content, or keyword lists.

Filter Everything Online is built around a simple idea: your filters should stay under your control. Core filtering happens in your browser, and account sync is optional.

Filtering Happens Locally

When you set up keywords, blocked sites, Smart Modes, or schedules, the extension checks page content locally in your browser and hides or replaces matching content in real time. Your filtering rules stay on your device. We do not need to receive page content for filtering to work.

What Stays on Your Device

  • Custom keywords and keyword groups
  • Blocked sites and domains
  • Smart Mode settings
  • Replacement style settings
  • Schedules and site exceptions
  • Temporary pause and snooze settings
  • Local filtering statistics

What Syncs Only If You Choose Account Sync

You can use the extension without an account. If you sign in and enable account sync, settings such as keywords, keyword groups, blocked sites, filter mode, Smart Modes, and replacement settings may be synced across your own devices. Keyword lists stay local unless you choose account sync. Synced settings are not sold or shared for advertising.

What We Do Not Sell

  • We do not sell personal data.
  • We do not sell browsing history.
  • We do not sell keyword lists or filtering rules.
  • We do not use your filtering rules to target ads.

Why Permissions Are Needed

The extension requests permissions only to make filtering work:

  • Storage — saves your settings, statistics, and session data locally.
  • Tabs — reads the current tab's URL so site-specific rules work.
  • Favicon — shows blocked site icons in the popup.
  • Identity — used only for optional Google sign-in.
  • Host permissions — lets the extension run on websites you visit and apply your local filter rules.

Google Login

Google login is optional and used only for authentication. It does not give us access to Gmail, Drive, contacts, calendar, or any other Google account content.
